Instead of building stores, we're building communities. We're cultivating a network of Trade as One advocates - individuals to "advocate" for producers by getting the word out about Trade as One. The idea is to combine the power of human relationships with the capabilities of the internet to bring some good news to the poorest of the poor.

Reasons you might want to become a Trade as One advocate

• You get to make the most of what you already do.

• Maintaining relationships with other people is one of the things that makes life interesting and fulfilling.

• It also gives you the power to change the world.

Mahatma Gandhi once said "be the change you wish to see in the world". We'd love you to join us and be a part of the change. There is no catch, no up-front commitment required - just the desire to be a part of what we're doing.

We'll support you

We help you develop your own way of doing things - whether it's just getting the word out by email to friends or participating in gift fairs, hosting coffee tasting evenings, setting up event tables, church stores or whatever else you come up with. You're the one who knows what will work for you and the people you know.

You don't need to be an experienced public speaker to be an advocate. Just bring your passion and connections. We bring the experience, the support and a program that is right for you.

How to be a Trade as One Advocate

1. Personalized Trade as One Webpage

We want to help you spread the word. Introduce friends and family to Trade as One through a customized webpage storefront like that of Linda Sekiguchi in Nevada www.tradeasone.com/linda. Setting up the page is easy: just email us a picture and some information about why you want to be a Trade as One advocate and we will set up your page and give you a template email to send to your friends about your new site.

Advocates with their own pages will receive 5% of their annual net sales back at the end of the year in the form of a Trade as One gift certificate.

2. Host a Trade as One Gathering

The most effective communication is still done face to face. Some people want to get involved with Trade as One by getting their local community to buy fair trade. They might do this at church or another social setting. We will equip Hosts with a 10 minute DVD about Trade as One and the people behind the products, an ideas manual for hosting Gatherings, a monthly featured product catalog and order forms for guests who are not familiar with shopping online, and will have sample product kits available for purchase by hosts. For these people, we can also create their own webpage which acts as a storefront for their network to place their orders.

3. Trade as One Church Sale (Book now for Christmas Sales!)

One of the most effective ways to launch the Trade as One program in your church will be through an event where products are available to see and to buy on site. There are three main types of event:

a. Testing the water- a low key event that may lead to a regular commitment to have products available for people to buy on site.

b. The sky’s the limit- an ambitious, high profile, high quality multimedia event that uses video, powerful talks, a fashion show and an auction to make people inside and outside the church aware of the social issues that Christians are taking action on.

c. Seasonal sales- around gift buying times (Valentine’s Day, Christmas, etc). Events to make gift purchasing easy are very successful.

Whatever you decide is right for your you and your church (or school, or office, or…) Trade as One will support you and your volunteers with a “How To” guide, informative brochures, and DVD’s to make sure that the event is a great success.
