TRADE (verb) to exchange for mutual benefit
AS ONE (adv.) United; acting for a common purpose

What is Trade as One's mission?

Trade as One sells products that come with meaning and stories behind them. There are many people in America who would love to use their spending power to buy products that come with rich stories of hope and dignity.  It uses spending power rather than donations as the means to bring jobs to the poorest of the poor by offering products that US consumers need. The products are all of extremely high quality and made by innovative socially responsible organizations in the developing world.

What makes Trade as One Unique?

Trade as One’s core concern is using sustainable business to address the issue of global poverty. All manner of related abuses and misfortunes come from poverty – human trafficking, AIDS, commercial sexual exploitation, gender abuse, lack of medical care and access to education. There are many organizations that rescue people from spiritual and physical enslavement and provide jobs for them making products that relatively affluent western people would buy if they knew of them. We seek to get our message out through telling of powerful stories and to do so, we partner with organizations that exist to tell those stories through music, film and art. We partner closely with faith communities because we believe that faith is a powerful and under-utilized motivator for ethical purchasing in America. By choosing to substitute ethically traded goods for conventional ones, people have daily opportunities to put their values and faith into action.

What are the products?

Trade as One has worked hard to pull together a product set that fits our mission and is desirable to American consumers. The products are a mix of consumables such as coffee, tea, rice, sugar and crafts such as jewelry, fashion accessories and housewares - all sourced according to the principles of fair trade (such as no child labor, living wages paid, gender equality, environmental stewardship).

How Trade as One selects its products:

• Must be Fair Trade certified or sourced from an organization with whom we and a church partner have a direct relationship
• Gifts for the occasional purchase, useful products for every day and foods for regular purchases
• Superb quality.

Where do we sell our products?

We do not have a bricks and mortar presence. We focus on two primary routes to market. The first is this website! The second is through both large and small scale events, which may be as simple as home gatherings and holiday gift fairs, or as ambitious as a professionally run event that focuses on exploring a poverty-related issue, such as human trafficking, through film, art and talks with the opportunity and invitation to buy products made by people who have been helped by the approach of trading as one.

By bringing jobs to the poor we give them the power to control their destinies and to live with hope and dignity.
